LURF GALLERY 1F is pleased to announce the solo exhibition "nonphysical reality" by artist Ai Naruyama.
Just as what we see does not remain in a physical form, memories also change shape over time and sink into the depths of our hearts. Naruyama Ai's works evoke a quiet and profound presence, as if layers of memory slowly emerge and are revealed on the canvas through the paint.
There is no clear composition or motif within the painting, but rather a fluctuation that appears between the visual senses. The work has no fixed meaning, and the sensations unfold within the blank space.
Nonphysical reality - the moment when the intangible takes shape. Come experience the boundaries between memory and sensation, between vagueness and certainty at the venue. The exhibition will run from Thursday, May 22, 2025 to Monday, June 16, 2025.

statement
After viewing a large amount of images through various visual media, including social media, I use paints with a sense of materiality to capture the immaterial and vague "images" of memories that remain in my mind, and then I put them onto a static, flat surface. I am conscious of two characteristics of "images" from memory: vague form and clear presence. In order to grasp the picture, I create works with the standard of whether my eyes are moving around trying to focus, in other words, whether the picture is "disorganized."
