Barry Kamen

We are pleased to announce that the second floor of LURF GALLERY (formerly the Roof Museum) will be hosting "IS IS IT AND," a solo exhibition by Barry Kamen, a member of the London-based artist collective BUFFALO.

Barry Cayman was a prominent influence in the fields of fashion, art and music in 1980s London, and is known as a central member of the "Buffalo Movement." He had a profound impact on British culture through his innovative collaboration with stylist Ray Petrie.
This exhibition will feature approximately 37 pieces, ranging from Barry's signature portrait series "IS IS IT" to his later works. In addition, his sculptures, art related to fashion and styling, and sketchbooks will also be on display, allowing visitors to appreciate a wide range of Barry's diverse creative activities. The exhibition will run from Saturday, September 14th to Monday, October 7th, 2024.

Barry Kamen (1963-2015)

He was an artist active in London in the 1980s who brought innovation to the fields of art and fashion. He was known as a central member of the "Buffalo Movement" along with stylist Ray Petri, and had a profound influence on London's street culture and nightlife.

Barry Cayman's art reflects street culture and personal experiences, and his unique style is recognized for works such as his signature portrait series "IS IS IT." He is also widely recognized in the fashion world, having participated in shows for designers such as Vivienne Westwood and Jean-Paul Gaultier, and in 1986 he collaborated with artist Jean-Michel Basquiat at the Comme des Garçons show.

Barry Cayman's work has opened up new possibilities for expression at the intersection of art and fashion, and his influence is still felt today.
