[Artist Statement]

I always have the feeling that I am "spending time alone, immersed in something."
Whether he is concentrating in his room, going out to see something he likes, or working to earn money, he works alone and in silence, without being integrated with anyone.
"Matthew" was born as a symbol of this feeling.

A few years later, when his interest in others grew, he created the "Bystander" series, which depicts unique individuals who spontaneously become friends through interaction.

In order to hold a solo exhibition in a large cafe space where people can interact with each other,
I tried to create a piece with a theme that could only be expressed in this space.
Interacting with people is an exchange of ideas.
For example, when you go to have tea with someone,
By exchanging various stories, the essence of the other person mixes with your own.
By the time I leave the store, I feel like a slightly different person than I was before I came here.
"Bystander" depicts how our purity changes through interaction.
I decided to use "Matthew" to express that not interacting with anyone would not change me.

The word HEAR links to Matthew with his big ears, and the word VOICE links to the many bystanders.
We decided on the title "HEAR THE VOICE" as a way to connect these two values.

series

Matthew & Morris

BRIDGE SHIP HOUSE's signature icon, the four-eyed rabbit "Matthew," is a strange, quiet worker who lives in the hills outside of town with his cactus "Morris," who is more than a pet but less than a friend, and makes a living by slaughtering animals.

The work depicts a rabbit, a social animal that naturally lives in groups, absorbed in solitude, without any contact with anyone.

bystander

The "bystander" series depicts how people with three eyes voluntarily interact with each other, evolving from "people who happened to be there" to "participants sharing time and space."

This design expresses the fact that although everyone has their own unique personality, it is difficult to instantly tell the difference between them just by looking at them.
