Lurf Museum is pleased to present "Vortex," an exhibition of new works by artist Tanizaki Isshin.
The new work is an abstract painting that repeats the motif of the "vortex" that appears in the exhibition title. Tanizaki describes the vortex as a visualization of the energy wavelengths that are generated when the energies of life come into contact with each other, and states that when vortices overlap, new energy is born.
The "Vortex" exhibition marks the beginning of a new series of works by Tanizaki Isshin. The exhibition explores the artist's creative process, exploring various ways of thinking about and depicting the "vortex" as the essential foundation of the series. Approximately 35 oil paintings from the Vortex series will be on display. In addition, Tanizaki Isshin merchandise and a collection of new works will be available for purchase at Lurf Museum's in-store and online stores. The exhibition will run from Thursday, November 2, 2023 to Sunday, November 26, 2023.

[Artist Statement]
The everyday world and natural scenery that we see and experience on a daily basis is constantly changing and never static. What does the world that we perceive really look like?
A single living thing is invisible and its existence cannot be recognized, but when it interacts with other living things, it becomes visible as a vortex of a certain energy wavelength, and eventually it takes shape into the world.
A vortex is one of the cells that make up the world, and as it comes into contact with a wide variety of beings, it multiplies and continues to form the universe. I see all the shapes of the world within it. Through the vortex, which is a basic component of my paintings, I depict these shapes as part of the landscape of the everyday world or the natural world.
