overview
Tanizaki Isshin is an artist who visually explores and expresses the movement of energy that resides in life, focusing on the themes of human life and the cycle of life. The title of this exhibition, "Cycle of Energy," embodies Tanizaki's view of life, that finite life is born, then disappears, and lives are passed on through a cycle that continues.
The diverse vortices, with their varied colors and three-dimensional textures, are created by swirling the brush to give movement to the canvas, mixing and unearthing colors; Tanizaki calls this technique "Vortex Painting." Expressed as images generated by the coming into contact of life's energies, the vortexes invite viewers to reflect on the essence of life and the meaning of existence. This exhibition will feature new works from the Vortex series, which was first shown in his 2023 solo exhibition, "Vortex."
Artist Statement
Cycle of Energy
When we think about a person's life, it begins when we are incarnated in the womb and ends when the physical body perishes.
Life is probably something that comes into being when the energy of consciousness enters and leaves the body.
It is said that life originated in the ocean over 3 billion years ago. Consciousness was incarnated in seawater, and through repeated in and out of consciousness, cells evolved into life. I don't know what meaning or purpose there is to this cycle of life, but I was also born from being in the womb, and I feel that I am part of this wonderful cycle.
I wanted to express the cycle of life with a vortex. A vortex is a visualization of energy and wavelengths, but by connecting vortices, the shape of the cycle of life becomes visible. Beyond that, there may be a form of a larger cycle known as the world.
