LURF GALLERY is pleased to announce the holding of artist Makoto Honda's solo exhibition "Deep in the Thin Forest" on the second floor.
Honda Makoto has continued to paint "sceneries that cannot be put into words" through the medium of painting, drawing on his own sensibilities and experiences.
His works exude a tranquility that seems to intersect with dreams and reality, and a somewhat surreal atmosphere.
The works honestly exude inexplicable emotions that flash through the heart at unexpected moments, scenes that come to mind, and fragments of forgotten memories, and it feels as if these things are quietly lingering deep within the works, refusing to be assigned a specific meaning.
This exhibition will feature a collection of works that use the technique of automatism to depict stories hidden in the artist's own everyday life, where the boundary between reality and surreality is blurred.
One of the pleasures of viewing the exhibition may be to unconsciously stroll through the world of the stories spun by the artists. The exhibition will run from Friday, May 23, 2025 to Monday, June 16, 2025.

statement
I sat down on a large, old stump and found myself lost in the depths of a thin forest. A cracked ship was stranded in my head. Many threads were intricately tangled, and no matter which one I pulled, it only got worse. I didn't know what the cause was. In truth, I had been lying in bed all day. In my futon. Floating on the sea, gazing at the horizon. I secretly buried sunflower seeds in the gaps in the city. And tulip bulbs too. A modest sense of fulfillment and a vague gloom coexisted without repelling or blending. The hot springs were great. The cats were sleeping soundly too. When my sadness overflowed, I'd blind myself with the sun. My teeth were about to fall out. Let's pretend everything was true, and not take ourselves too seriously.
