Roof Museum is pleased to present artist Makoto Honda's solo exhibition "Green Raccoon."
Honda Makoto has created works based on his own background, sensibilities, and experiences, without being bound by the boundaries of figurative or abstract.
This exhibition is divided into five chapters, and will feature approximately 30 works painted between 2015 and 2024. Enjoy the mysterious atmosphere that emanates from the works, which is neither dream nor reality. In addition, T-shirts created for this exhibition will be on sale at the Lurf Museum venue and online store. The exhibition will run from Wednesday, April 10th to Monday, May 13th, 2024.

statement
What on earth am I doing?
What on earth am I doing?
Don't think about that and just do what you love.
Of course, I still love drawing,
As expected, there is a lot of pain.
This is especially true if you are trying to make a living as a painter, and self-contradiction arises.
(I don't want to be a painter. In fact, I don't want to be anything at all.)
It's not that I enjoy drawing.
I'm an immature narcissist. I want to put a leaf on my head and disappear.
I am cursed.
That being said, leaving that aside,
The fact is that I just keep on painting.
There are times when I don't even know what I'm drawing,
That is a requirement for the paintings I want to paint.
As I move the paintbrush,
Sometimes things that I wasn't trying to draw appear on the canvas.
Capture it. Or crush it. Repeat.
For me, a good piece of work is one that transcends my own consciousness.
It's an accident and an opportunity.
As long as the finished picture has a certain atmosphere, it doesn't have to have any meaning.
The works on display this time are:
Although they are not drawn in relation to each other,
While I was thinking about the composition of the exhibition, I looked at the completed paintings,
This picture is connected to this picture, and this picture is connected to this one, and so on.
It's like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle falling into place.
It felt like I was putting together a puzzle unconsciously, and it was fun.
I hope that through these dozens of works, you will feel as if you are telling a single story.
But there's no particular meaning to it,
Just take a moment to stare at it.
I see a few green raccoons.
