Lurf MUSEUM will be holding "nestle," a solo exhibition by artist Momoko Nakamura. Based on the theme of "nestle = to embrace," the exhibition will feature over 40 works, ranging from canvases created while embracing what she saw and felt at each time and place, to drawings and three-dimensional objects. The exhibition condenses her current state, as she paints what she wants to paint. Additionally, Momoko Nakamura merchandise created in conjunction with the exhibition will be available for purchase at Lurf MUSEUM's in-store and online stores. The exhibition will run from Thursday, October 5th to Monday, October 30th, 2023.

[Artist Statement]
Draw what you want to draw.
The images of "women" and "flowers" inspire my brush.
The faces of the girls who appear in the paintings are always expressionless. That is because even if someone is crying, they may actually be crying because they are happy, and even if someone is smiling, I don't want to think that it is just a smile. There are many reasons for facial expressions. Because the absence of something means that there are many.
What do people think when they see plants? To me, they seem to foster freedom. Depending on the place you look at them from, the temperature at the time, or the state of your mind, the plants will speak to you differently. The flowers and plants that entwine around the women's bodies are meant to evoke this image.
nestle: to snuggle up to.
This time, it's in a space in Shibuya, where I was born and raised.
People chat over tea near the furniture and tableware in the cafe on the first floor, occasionally taking in the breeze of Shibuya's air.
I decide the colors next to each other in the painting based on the scenery and stimuli I have seen. If I paint tomorrow, the colors will be the same tomorrow. I paint while staying close to the things that interact with each other, so as to accurately capture the changes that occur due to the things that mix with the air.
