[Artist Statement]

In "Walk around my town," I depict a fictional town that doesn't actually exist. The town has areas with different atmospheres and distinctive landmarks. I lay roads on the canvas, line up buildings, plant trees, and light streetlights. I enjoy watching the town unfold as if I were playing with building blocks. I depict the small joys and emotions I feel in my daily life through the people who live in this town.

Genkosha is pleased to announce that "ON THE CORNER," a collection of my artwork from the past five years, will be published. It was five years ago that I held my first solo exhibition, "Come to My Town." This exhibition, "Walk around my town," aims to summarise my journey from "Come to My Town" to the present. Many of the works on display are self-homages to motifs and similar compositions I've painted in the past. I encourage those who have followed my work up to now, as well as those seeing my paintings for the first time, to take a peek at "ON THE CORNER." I hope you'll sense a connection between what I'm painting "now" and everything I've painted up until now.
