[Artist Statement]
With a suppressed impulse, I paint.
He paints quickly, but he doesn't rely on momentum or movement. However, there is no set path. A thought process that seems understandable but isn't, seems intentional but isn't, seems explainable but can't be explained, crystallizes in his work.
It is a chaotic chain of complex meanings, sensations, consciousness, unconsciousness, language and images. It seems like a natural form, and I would like to head there.
Now, I would like to write about the title of this exhibition here.
I use a variety of media, including drawings, paintings, and three-dimensional works using wire and neon lights, to create works that reflect the local context, using different materials and techniques.
Drawings have a spatiality that is unique to the materials and quality of the drawings, and the same is true for paintings.
The images that appeared in the drawings are beginning to appear in the paintings as well, and one begins to sense a common spatiality that transcends the differences in materials between the drawings and paintings.
The world of the drawing begins to be integrated into the material of the painting, and the image of the painting also intertwines with it. The world of the drawing comes close to the painting, and the two seem to walk hand in hand.
The title of this exhibition is "human closely," as the images and space of the drawings steadily approach painting.
What kind of scenery would we see if these parallel lines were to merge into one?

Kawauchi is an artist whose work, starting from an interest in food and centered on the ambiguity of the relationship between the body and thought, uses the self and other as motifs that appear and disappear in the communication where various elements such as food, conversation and sex interact, across a wide range of media, including drawings, paintings, wire, rubber tubing, resin and neon tubes. Kawauchi says that by drawing through his work, he is able to capture within lines the elusive movements of the body and the invisible movements of thought.
