[Artist Statement]

That presence passes through my body.
Just how far has it gone?
It becomes something different from the original,
It returns and passes through my body again.

Fragments of sensation that do not even form an image as a memory.
Colors that resonate without words.
It resonates like an echo and eventually dissolves into the wind.

If the many scattered lights and sounds will meet someday, somewhere

I hope that our wishes will become gentle bundles that envelop everyone as lightly as silk.

The "SAKURA" series began with the intention of incorporating the time, space, and memories that cherry blossoms create into his artwork. Inspired by the nature of Somei-Yoshino cherry trees, in which "every individual is a clone," the 2022 works attempt to capture the expansive nature of cherry blossoms as a group that transcends the "individual."

Behind this was a realization of how fleeting each individual existence is, and a desire for peace and life to overcome this. Perhaps it is in this ambiguous expanse that we find the place for such wishes, which are both individual and collective. This thought was one of the main motivations for starting the "SAKURA" series.

What characterizes this "Cherry Blossoms" is the expression of wind and light, which gives the element of "movement" to the expanse of this group. The pictorial space, filled with the colored surfaces of the cherry blossoms, allows one to sense the presence of others outside, or the source from which something arrives, and in doing so, one finds the contours of one's own "individuality." For me now, painting the undulating cherry blossoms is connected to confirming myself and the world, and sharing joy, through the wind, light, and color.
